Artist Statement

I am an aggregate of my global and regional consciousness. I have lived in eight countries and traveled through many more. My art has become a reflection of my experiences in various cultures. I make art to give voice to questions, reactions and feelings within me. Every new piece is like a page I write on.

I paint mostly with oil, as oil lets me manipulate the colors to reach my goal easily . Recently acrylic has presented itself with numerous possibilities and allows me to achieve a more organic texture as I can combine it with a variety of materials. My choice of color is rooted in my birth on the Indian sub-continent. Indian reds and yellow are some instinctive picks, but lately I have moved to palette dominated by blues.  I  use rice, paper, thread and cloth with different acrylic mediums. The materials used are a natural fit for me to create texture.

I weave figures and colors to tell a story, and the original inspiration dictates the path this story takes. My travels have brought me in touch with numerous women across different cultures and their stories, which are similar across the world.I aspire to give words to these stories .
